After a loaded Week 8 college football slate, the race for the Heisman Trophy is heating up. Some of the best players in the country have continued to perform at a high level and are garnering consideration for the most coveted award in college football.
With six weeks remaining in the regular season, here are the updated Heisman Trophy odds following Week 8.
Updated Heisman Trophy odds after Week 8
T1. Cam Ward, Miami QB (+200)
After a week off for Ashton Jeanty and another skillful performance from the Miami Hurricanes' offense, Cam Ward has shot up the Heisman Trophy odds rankings.
Miami topped the Louisville Cardinals 52-45 in a highly contested matchup, and Ward shined yet again. The Hurricanes quarterback was 21-of-32 passing, throwing for 319 yards and four touchdowns, adding seven carries for 29 yards.
Ward is leading the FBS in passing yards and passing touchdowns through Week 8.
T1. Ashton Jeanty, Boise State RB (+200)
Despite an off-week for the Boise State Broncos, Ashton Jeanty's dominance continues to be one of the defining stories of college football.
Jeanty is on pace to break Barry Sanders' single-season rushing record and has recorded 126 carries for 1,248 yards with 18 total touchdowns. Behind the efforts of their star running back, Boise State is ranked as the No. 17 team in the country with a 5-1 record.
3. Dillon Gabriel, Oregon QB (+350)
Dillon Gabriel has continued to climb the Heisman ladder over the last two weeks. Gabriel originally shot up the rankings following Oregon's 32-31 win over Ohio State in Week 7. In the win, Gabriel was 23-of-34 passing, throwing for 341 yards with three total touchdowns, two passing and one rushing.
Gabriel followed that up with another impressive showing versus Purdue. Against the Boilermakers, Gabriel was 21-of-25 passing for 290 yards and two touchdowns with an interception.
4. Travis Hunter, Colorado WR/DB (+1500)
As Travis Hunter's offensive production has dipped, so have his Heisman odds despite maintaining his stellar level of play on the defensive side of the ball.
In the Colorado Buffaloes' Week 8 matchup versus Arizona, Hunter sat out in the second half after re-aggravating a shoulder injury. He caught two passes for 17 yards. He also notched a tackle on defense.
