Quinn Ewers was among the top-ranked prospects in the 2022 recruitment class. With interests from various talent powerhouses like Tennessee, TCU, Ole Miss, Ohio State and Texas, Ewers found himself in a good spot as he was making his highly anticipated decision.
Ewers decided to skip the senior year of his high school and announced his initial commitment to the Texas Longhorns in August 2020, but eventually flipped to Ryan Day's Ohio State Buckeyes in November 2020.
Ewers enrolled with the Buckeyes in 2021 following his official visits and participated in the preseason training camp. Ewers got a chance to debut with the Buckeyes in November 2022, against Michigan State, but just played two snaps during the game.
After spending one year on the bench at Ohio State, Ewers decided that it was best for him to enter the transfer portal and look for opportunities somewhere else, and eventually ended up transferring to Steve Sarkisian's Texas Longhorns in 2022.
In his first two seasons in Texas, Ewers threw for 5,656 yards for 37 touchdowns and 12 interceptions. Ewers will be coming back for another season with the Longhorns in the 2024 college football season.
Despite his move from the Buckeyes, the Texas quarterback expressed excitement about playing Michigan in Week 2 during the 2024 Big Ten Media Days and took a subtle dig at the Wolverines, as he refused to take the program's name, owing to his former Ohio State ties:
"Going up to the Big House, yeah, I mean, it's going to be an awesome environment," Ewers said. "Place is going to be rocking. Especially all the hype since it's an early game. They're coming off a really big win, the national championship, yeah, 'The Team Up North.'"
Quinn Ewers on his friendship with Arch Manning
When Ewers joined the Longhorns, everybody anticipated a bright future for the former five-star quarterback.
However, when Arch Manning joined the team, there was constant interest around him as college football fans wanted to see how the Manning prodigy would take the Manning name's legacy forward.
Ewers was expected to declare for the 2024 NFL draft, which would've given Manning the opportunity to start in the upcoming season, but he decided to come back for another year, meaning Manning will have to wait for his opportunity for at least another season unless he decides to enter the transfer portal.
Despite the quarterback competition at Texas, Quinn Ewers has talked about having a good relationship with Arch Manning at various times. Speaking on Robert Griffin III's podcast "RG3 and the Ones" earlier in June, Ewers spoke about their relationship:
"I think we're really intense competitors. And we all want the same outcome," Ewers said. "But at the end of the day, I think I think we're better humans. And I think we're better people. And I think that we really enjoy each other's company in that quarterback room.
