Coach Kalen DeBoer has managed to build the second overall recruiting class for 2025 at Alabama, despite some fears at the start of the year that Nick Saban's departure might derail the future of the Crimson Tide. For 2025, the Tuscaloosa school already has four hard commitments from five-star recruits.
Earlier in August, during an interview with 247Sports, DeBoer explained the school's success at recruiting and said:
"There was great urgency with all of that, just trying to really get locked in on who we wanted to have in our program, that starts with the evaluation, great communication amongst our staff, our plan with hopes of getting guys to campus a certain number of times and us being able to grow our relationship with these prospects and their parents."
List of Alabama's five-star recruits in the class of 2025
- Keelon Russell, QB
- Ty Haywood, OT
- Caleb Cunningham, WR
- Dijon Lee, CB
Quarterback Keelon Russell is the highest-rated player on the list, with him being the tenth overall prospect in the nation and the third overall in his position. If Alabama does manage to hold down Russell, the incorporation might help offset the departure of Julian Sayin. Sayin left after Nick Saban's retirement and made some worry it could potentially signal an exodus of talent out of Tuscaloosa.
Kalen DeBoer on the first day of the pre-season camp
On Monday, Kalen DeBoer spoke with the media after the end of the first day of Alabama's pre-season football camp. It was clear that the foremost thing on the coach's mind was to arrive on Aug. 31 with a healthy roster.
“Staying relatively healthy, just your typical fall camp stuff,” DeBoer said after the scrimmage. “Guys dinged up here and there, but nothing more than what you’d expect.
“Probably just staying healthy, you know? Again, I feel good about where we’re at. This will be our biggest scrimmage. This will be the most plays that we run. Next week we’ll have a scrimmage too, but it won’t be quite as many, it’ll be solid. But just being healthy. We need all the reps.”
The Crimson Tide starts the season at home in Week 1 against Western Kentucky. The first SEC encounter for Alabama is a tough one against Georgia on Sept. 28. The school is currently ranked No. 5 in the preseason poll.
