In October 2023, former Alabama head coach Nick Saban shared a funny moment about getting “coached” by his wife, Miss Terry. During a press conference clip uploaded by WVTM13, Saban explained that the Mississippi State game was the first Alabama fixture she’d ever missed.
Reflecting on her experience watching from home, Saban said:
“Well, she waited up for me to get home, so that was a good thing,” Saban said. “But it was one of the first games she's missed and didn't go to since we've been in here. I think it is the first game, actually. And so, you know, she says you can see what's happened a lot better on TV.
“So I got coached up quite a bit when I got home,” he added.
Saban retired in January after 17 seasons and six national championships with Alabama, building one of the most dominant college football programs of the 21st century. In his retirement statement, he noted that he and Miss Terry "have enjoyed every minute" of their 17 years in Tuscaloosa.
Last month, Terry joined her husband on ESPN’s “College GameDay” for Week 5, bringing Alabama fans a familiar and beloved face.
Nick Saban opens up on his final season at Alabama Crimson Tide
Nick Saban, on Friday, shared on “The Pat McAfee Show” why his final season at Alabama was especially challenging.
“I was 72 the last year I coached. I had no problem relating to players, and I think if you asked the players they would say the same thing,” Saban said [H/t On3].
“But it changed a lot through the years, because the players actually changed, in terms of what their commitment was and what their purpose in terms of why were they going to college and what were they trying to accomplish.
“So you had to kind of adapt your program and the way you approach them,” he said.
Saban noted that getting players to buy into the team spirit wasn’t as straightforward anymore.
“You’ve kinda gotta show these guys where it’s going to benefit them…,” he said. “You had to show them where it was going to create value for them and even being part of a team, how that’s creating value for your future.”
After years of adapting to these changes, Saban decided to retire following the 2023 season.
