Nick Saban announced his retirement in early January after a 28-year-long career as a coach, ending one of the greatest coaching stints the game has seen. The former Alabama coach was known for his work ethic and hardly taking days off in the 50 years he served as a coach.
During a conversation on the YouTube channel "Rick and Bubba" five years ago, just after getting hip replacement surgery, Saban shared his idea of what a perfect day of relaxing looks like for a workaholic like him:
"I love the water, so I like going to the lake, or like going to the beach, and I like to play golf, and I like to be around my family and children and grandchildren, and Miss Terry and all that.
"So it would be some combination of those three things, and maybe all three of them, if I could get them all in the same day, that'd be the perfect day. Water and family, and we're spending time together, and we're chilling."
He said he only lasted six hours when trying to relax, which resulted in a hilarious warning from his wife Miss Terry:
"I lasted for six hours. You know, we got back. We got operated on Monday night, and got out Tuesday, I got home at nine. I had to sit in a chair. Miss Terry decided that she was going to take the dogs to the lake, so that was three o'clock.
"So when she came back, I was walking around in a yard. She said, if you don't get back in the house and sit in the gym, we'll call the police." [7:25]
What is Nick Saban doing now?
After concluding a fast-paced career, many would expect Nick Saban to take some time off and enjoy his retirement. However, it didn't take long for the former Alabama coach to find a way to stay busy and continue being connected to the game.
Almost a month after the retirement news, it was announced that Saban would be joining the ESPN College GameDay crew as an analyst. He has now been stealing fans' attention with his personality and new relationship with co-workers Pat McAfee, Rece Davis, and others.
