The No. 20 Illinois Fighting Illini will go on the road to face the No. 1 Oregon Ducks at Autzen Stadium. Illinois coach Bret Bielema will try to end the Ducks' undefeated streak and lead the team to their biggest win this season. Bielema will rely on starting quarterback Luke Altmyer to help pull off the upset victory in the Week 9 conference game.
The Fighting Illini (6-1, 3-1 Big Ten) are coming off an impressive 21-7 victory over the then-No. 24 Michigan Wolverines (4-3, 2-2) on Saturday. In the game, Altmyer completed 9 of 18 passes for 80 yards and one touchdown. He also was able to use his legs for 48 yards and get into the end zone.
Against Michigan, Altmyer showcased his versatility, which he'll need to get a win on Saturday. The Illinois quarterback has thrown for 1,506 yards and 15 touchdowns for the season. With only one interception, Altmyer has proven to be a reliable quarterback for Bielema.
The Ducks (7-0, 4-0) have looked great this season, but the Fighting Illini may have what it takes to give Oregon its first loss.
A look at the depth chart for the Illinois Fighting Illini
While Altmyer is expected to be the quarterback on Saturday, Bielema has options on his bench if he needs a replacement.
The Fighting Illini have five quarterbacks who could step up in case of an unexpected injury or a situation that would arise that would require a substitution. Even so, Altmyer should be fully healthy to handle the position against Oregon in Week 9.
