Kansas State (5-1) pulled off a big 31-28 win over Colorado (4-2) last Saturday, and quarterback Avery Johnson was a big part of it. He led an impressive final drive that ended with a 50-yard touchdown pass to Jayce Brown. However, early in the second half, it did not look like it would be possible as Johnson looked visibly in pain.

Early in the third quarter, Avery Johnson grabbed his hip and went to the sideline. He returned and finished the game, but now Wildcats fans are wondering if the quarterback will be back for Saturday's matchup against West Virginia. Fortunately for Kansas State, it looks like Johnson will start today.

Avery Johnson injury update

When asked how his body felt on Monday, Johnson quickly told reporters he felt good. He did not linger on the question or give any reason to doubt his status. Johnson said he feels good and should be good to go against West Virginia.

What happened to Avery Johnson?

Early in the third quarter of Kansas State's game against Colorado, Johnson completed a 33-yard pass to wide receiver Jayce Brown. He was not hit on the play, but he grabbed his left hip and limped to the sideline. Fortunately for the Wildcats, he returned after a few plays and completed a one-yard touchdown pass to Jayce Brown to give them a 21-7 lead.

Johnson said the cause of his pain was a hit to the abdominal area on the previous play. He finished the rest of the game without further aggravating the injury.

When will Avery Johnson return?

Neither Johnson nor head coach Chris Klieman have commented on his injury since Monday. Although it does not guarantee anything, it is a good sign that Johnson is healthy and should be good against West Virginia. He is not listed on the injury report.

Having Johnson in the lineup is crucial for Kansas State as the Wildcats look to climb the Big 12 standings and earn a playoff berth. Avery Johson has started every game for the Wildcats and has performed well. His last two games have been particularly strong, throwing for over 220 yards in both games.

Through six games this season, he has completed 92 of 149 passing attempts and thrown for 1103 yards and 11 touchdowns. His rushing game is also valuable, as he has picked up 306 yards and three touchdowns on 51 carries.
