Quarterback Blake Horvath and the Navy Midshipmen looked like a possible playoff team earlier in the season when they won their first six games. While that did not turn out to be the case, Horvath was a big part of keeping them competitive. However, he has dealt with injuries and has not appeared since leaving early in a 35-0 loss to Tulane on Nov. 16.
Fortunately for the Midshipmen, it appears Horvath's injury might be healed. He has been upgraded to probable on the injury report and is likely to be available against Army on Saturday.
Blake Horvath injury update
Blake Horvath missed Navy's (8-3) last matchup with a rib injury and most of the games before with the same injury. Although the Midshipmen were able to persevere in their previous matchup with a 34-20 win over East Carolina, he would be a valuable addition in their rivalry game against the No. 22-ranked Army Black Knights (11-1).
Fortunately for the Midshipmen, it appears that Horvath is healed and ready to go. He has been upgraded to probable on the injury report, so unless he has a setback, he should play against Army.
What happened to Blake Horvath?
Horvath was injured early in the game against Tulane in mid-November. On a scramble play with six minutes left in the first quarter, he took a shotgun snap and ran a designed QB sweep play to the left. When blocking failed him, Horvath was hit by two defenders and came down hard on his shoulder. He stayed on the ground and doubled over before leaving the game.
It was later announced on the broadcast that Horvath was suffering from back spasms. However, the injury report later revealed that he was dealing with a rib injury.
When will Blake Horvath return?
Blake Horvath is expected to make his return against Army after missing most of the past two games with a rib injury. Navy fans will be happy to see their star quarterback back after only a few games considering how much time he missed last season. Horvath only played in four games in 2023 before a thumb injury ended his season.
This year, Horvath has been stellar for the Midshipmen. He has completed 69 of 118 passes for 1154 yards and 11 touchdowns. However, he is far more effective as a rusher, rushing for 895 yards and 13 TDs on 133 carries.
