Quarterback Cam Rising and the Utah Utes had high hopes at the start of the season and even ranked high in the AP Top 25 Poll at some points during the year. However, injuries and recent poor play have hurt both of their seasons. The seventh-year senior has dealt with two injuries this year with the latest being a lower leg injury.
Unfortunately for Cam Rising, he will not play Saturday against No. 9 ranked BYU. He has been ruled out for the rest of the season.
Cam Rising injury update

Cam Rising returned from an injury to his throwing hand in the 19-27 Arizona State loss in the Week 7 matchup. However, in the same game, he suffered a leg injury that would result in the end of his season. Shortly after the injury, head coach Kyle Whittingham reported that the QB would miss the rest of the season.
"During his time at Utah, Cam has been both a great player and leader for our program, and he will obviously be missed," Whittingham said to the media. "Any future developments concerning his collegiate eligibility will be addressed at a later date," he added.
Despite being a seventh-year senior, Rising still has another year of eligibility if he decides to medically redshirt this season. However, Rising has indicated that he is unsure about returning for an eighth season.
What happened to Cam Rising?
Rising was initially injured on Sept. 7 in a 23-12 win over Baylor. When Rising was tackled, he suffered an injury to his throwing hand that forced him to miss three games. However, he was able to recover and return against Arizona State on Oct. 11.
In the game against Arizona State, Rising was injured on the first drive of the game. After taking a hit, his leg bent backward at an awkward angle. He struggled but managed to complete the game, but only completed 43% of his passes.
In the week after the game, it was revealed by Whittingham that Rising would miss the rest of the season with a lower leg injury. Backup Isaac Wilson was made the starter.
When will Cam Rising return?
Rising will not return for the Utah Utes (4-4) this season, and as a result, he will not play against BYU (8-0) on Saturday. He could medically redshirt and return next season, but that decision is up to him. He has indicated that he is unsure about returning for an eighth season.
