Is Cam Rising playing today vs Colorado? Utah quarterback status explored

Quarterback Cam Rising and the Utah Utes had high hopes of making a playoff push early in the season. The team got out to a 4-0 start but has since lost five straight games. The Utes often ranked in the AP Top 25 Poll during their hot start. However, injuries and poor play have hurt both the team's season and Rising's.

Rising, a seventh-year senior, has struggled with two separate injuries throughout the year. He will not play against No. 18-ranked Colorado on Saturday, as he has been ruled out for the rest of the season.

Cam Rising injury update

Cam Rising suffered an injury to his throwing hand in a 23-12 win over Baylor on Sept. 7. The injury caused him to miss the next three games, but he returned for Utah's 27-19 loss against Arizona State on Oct. 11.

Unfortunately for Rising, he suffered another injury on his return, this time to his leg. Although he was able to play the rest of the game, it was later determined that the injury would cause him to miss the rest of the season. Coach Kyle Whittingham confirmed this in a press conference and spoke about Rising's future and impact on Utah.

"During his time at Utah, Cam has been both a great player and leader for our program, and he will obviously be missed," Whittingham said. "Any future developments concerning his collegiate eligibility will be addressed at a later date."

Despite the fact that he is a seventh-year senior, Rising still has a year of eligibility if he decides to redshirt this season. However, he has indicated that he is unsure if he wants to return for an eighth year.

What happened to Cam Rising?

Rising initially suffered an injury to his throwing hand against Baylor in Week 2. He missed three games before returning from injury against Arizona State.

While playing against Arizona State, Rising suffered a left leg injury on the first drive of the game. A hit caused his leg to bend backward at an awkward angle. He was able to finish the matchup but struggled with accuracy. In the week after the game, it was revealed that he would miss the rest of the season.

When will Cam Rising return?

Cam Rising will not return this season for the Utah Utes (4-5). As a result, he will not play against Colorado (7-2) on Saturday. If he decides to medically redshirt, he can return as the quarterback for the Utes next season.
