Quarterback Cam Rising and the Utah Utes are set to play the No. 22-ranked Iowa State Cyclones on Saturday. The Utes (4-6, 1-6 Big 12) are coming off a 49-24 loss to No. 16-ranked Colorado last Saturday. Conversely, the Cyclones (8-2, 5-2 Big 12) are coming off a 34-17 win over Cincinnati.

Although the Utes were a ranked team early in the season after winning their first four games of the season, they have since lost six straight. Injuries have been a big issue for the team. Most notably, Cam Rising has missed most of the season with various injuries. He will not play against Iowa State on Saturday, as he has been ruled out for the rest of the season.

Cam Rising injury update

Rising has dealt with two significant injuries this year. He first dealt with an injury to his throwing hand he suffered during a 23-12 win over Baylor on Sep. 7. The injury forced him to miss the next three games. However, Rising was able to return for Utah's 27-19 loss against Arizona State on Oct. 11.

Unfortunately for Rising, he did not stay healthy for long as he suffered another injury early in his return. This time it was to his leg. Although he was able to return and finish the game, it was the last time the Utes would have him on the field for the season. Coach Kyle Whittingham confirmed that Rising would miss the rest of the season in a press conference.

"During his time at Utah, Cam has been both a great player and leader for our program, and he will obviously be missed," Whittingham said. "Any future developments concerning his collegiate eligibility will be addressed at a later date."

Despite the fact that Rising is a seventh-year senior, he still has a year of eligibility if he decides to medically redshirt. However, he has indicated that he is unsure if he wants to return for an eighth season.

What happened to Cam Rising?

After returning from his initial injury against Baylor, Rising suffered a separate injury against Arizona State. His left leg was injured on the first drive of the game when a hit caused it to bend backward at an awkward angle. Although he returned to the game, it was later revealed that he would miss the rest of the season.
