The 2025 Goodyear Cotton Bowl Classic will be the 89th edition of the contest and form part of the semifinals of this year's 12-team College Football Playoff. The Texas Longhorns are scheduled to take on the Ohio State Buckeyes, with the winner advancing to the national championship game for a shot at glory.

However, due to the bad weather and continuous snowfall, there have been rumors of the Cotton Bowl being canceled amid freezing temperatures. So is the CFP semifinal showdown between Texas and Ohio State not taking place as scheduled?

Is the Cotton Bowl canceled?

No, despite the weather concerns, AT&T Stadium and officials of the Goodyear Cotton Bowl have decided not to cancel or postpone the semifinal. They released a statement on social media stating that they are closely monitoring the weather.

Amid growing concerns, the Texas versus Ohio State showdown will take place as scheduled. In an official statement shared on X/Twitter, they also said that they are prepared with safety measures if the weather continues to worsen over time.

The statement read:

"We continue to monitor weather reports, and over the last 24 hours, the forecast for later this week has improved according to the National Weather Service. We have been meeting routinely with city officials, the Director of Transportation for North Texas and the College Football Playoff. Should the forecast shift, we are prepared for all contingencies.
"North Texas highways are already being brined and plans are in place to assure a safe environment in and around AT&T Stadium on Game Day. The teams arrive tomorrow, as planned and the 2025 CFP Semifinal at the 89th Goodyear Cotton Bowl Classic will kick off on Friday evening as scheduled."

The Ohio State versus Texas CFP semifinal showdown is scheduled to be played on Friday, with kick-off scheduled at 7:30 p.m. ET. The game will be broadcast live on television on the ESPN channel.

Arlington's field operations supervisor DJ Ryals opens up about preparations for Cotton Bowl

This is not the first time that nature has played a big role during a sporting event in North Texas. During the 2011 Super Bowl preparation, there was catastrophic snow on the roads of North Texas and six people got injured when ice fell from the roof of AT&T Stadium.

To prevent such an incident again, Field Operations Supervisor DJ Ryals shed some light on the preparations they are making despite the uncertainty of the weather ahead of the Cotton Bowl Classic showdown.

"The unknown's kind of hard," Riyals said via nbcdfw.com. "We don't know if we're getting snow, ice, how much, in preparation for snow we're looking at having a couple of snowplows and motor grader to help with that.
"We put salt brine on 24 or 48 hours in advance. We don't sand until it starts snowing or ice is forming," he added.
