No, DJ Lagway is not in his senior season of college football. He's a freshman who's going to start his collegiate journey with the Florida Gators this season.

It means he has his entire NCAA eligibility left. Coming out as a five-star quarterback from Willis High School, Lagway made his commitment to the Gators back in 2022 before signing his letter of intent last year.

As a high school QB, DJ Lagway put up some impressive numbers. In 2022, he put up 2,081 passing yards and 24 touchdown passes. During his senior season with Willis High School last year, Lagway recorded 4,604 passing yards and registered a 6A state record of 58 touchdown passes.

He helped his team finish with a 12-1 overall record and secure their first district title since 2002.

It also earned them a spot in the 6A-Division II regional final. Lagway was named the 2023 Gatorade Football Player of the Year and Mr. Texas Football for his impressive performances on the gridiron.

DJ Lagway puts his faith in HC Billy Napier ahead of Florida Gators debut

Billy Napier took over at the Gators' helm ahead of the 2022 season. In his two-season stint, he's yet to earn the confidence of fans, especially after failing to be bowl-eligible last season following a 5-7 campaign.

However, while speaking to On3, Lagway talked about his faith in Billy Napier's coaching abilities to help the team become a top contender for the natty. The Florida freshman QB also said that the players are ready to tackle the disrespect and criticism and prove all the naysayers wrong this upcoming season.

"With that situation, we're going to come out there and do our thing. Coach Napier has prepared us, and we all have that chip in our shoulder because we feel like we're being disrespected this year.

"So, we're all going to go out there and do our thing, take care of business and come out victorious," Lagway said.
