J.J. McCarthy was set to return to Ann Arbor as Michigan's honorary captain for the Wolverines' highly-anticipated clash against the top-ranked Oregon Ducks in Week 10 on Saturday. However, it appears that the Minnesota Vikings quarterback will not be showing up for the game.

J.J. McCarthy will not be Michigan's honorary captain against Oregon on Saturday. The signal-caller confirmed on his Instagram story that he won't be at the game, but has plans to fill in for the ceremonial role in the future.

"Not this weekend but in due time!," McCarthy wrote on his IG story while sharing a post that said he was set to return to Michigan for the team's Week 10 game.
Earlier this week, Michigan coach Sherrone Moore had said that McCarthy was going to be the team's honorary captain, while trying to bring in some more guests.
“JJ will be back, he will be honorary captain and got some other guys we’re trying to confirm,” Moore announced to ABC7's Brad Galli. “But excited about JJ being back.”
Now, it remains to be seen who will fill in for McCarthy as Michigan's honorary captain on Saturday.
McCarthy played three seasons at Michigan before the Minnesota Vikings drafted him in the first round this year. However, his start in the NFL got off to a nightmare after he suffered a knee injury in preseason that required surgery to fix a tear in his right meniscus, The injury effectively ruled McCarthy out for the 2024 season, which was to be his rookie year in the league.
In his final season at Michigan, McCarthy led the Wolverines to the national championship, going 15-0 throughout the season. Michigan beat Washington 34-13 in the title game in January this year.
