Last weekend, before the clash against Texas A&M, rumors circulated about the injury status of Jalen Milroe, and they were later proven to be false.
Milroe has emerged as the quarterback Alabama has been looking for since the departure of Bryce Young to the NFL. He has beaten out any competition from Tyler Buchner and Ty Simpson.
The quarterback went on to have a phenomenal game against the Aggies, where he threw for 321 yards, resulting in three touchdowns, even though a late mistake from the QB almost proved catastrophic.
Is Jalen Milroe playing today?
Jalen Milroe is healthy and will start versus the Arkansas Razorbacks after taking up the mantle of being QB1 for the Crimson Tide in recent weeks.
In his weekly appearance on "The Pat McAfee Show," Nick Saban was highly complimentary of his quarterback's growth this season.
"I think his confidence, relationships and understanding with his coaches of exactly what he needs to do as a player has gone way up. And I think that is what has helped his performance.
"I mean, the guy is a talented guy. He can throw the ball accurately down the field. He’s a real athlete. He can extend plays, he can make plays with his feet. So, this progression that we kind of needed for him to just play quarterback has been really, really exponentially improving week-by-week,” Saban said.
Importance of Jalen Milroe to Alabama
Since he was dropped for Alabama's nervy win against South Florida, Jalen Milroe has taken the reins as the Crimson Tide's signal caller and run with them spectacularly.
Arkansas coach Sam Pittman was full of praise for Milroe in his weekly press conference before the two sides met.
“Milroe is great at throwing the deep ball. I mean, he is,” Pittman said. “I’m not saying Milroe can’t make every throw. I’m saying he’s fantastic at the deep ball.”
Pittman also highlighted the importance of Milroe to the Alabama game, which seems to be a running-heavy style of play. The Crimson Tide have made 141 pass attempts versus 241 passing attempts this season.
“They put some quarterback sweeps in,” Pittman said. “When you go back and look at the South Florida game, when Milroe didn’t start, vs. now, yes, they’re a run-first team, including using him. And they’re throwing the long ball and connecting. Burton’s a great 1-on-1 guy to throw it to.”
Last week's win against Texas A&M has put Alabama in the driving seat in the SEC West, and Jalen Milroe is at the forefront of the Tide's resurgence.
