There was a lot of anticipation ahead of the release of College Football 25. Fans who played the video game before its hiatus were eager for its return, and those who never had the opportunity were anticipating to see what it feels like. One of the most enjoyed modes in the game in its past iterations was the Mascot Mode. Does it return in the recent release?
Is there a Mascot Mode in College Football 25?
The Mascot Mode is not available in College Football 25. With more advanced features and modes added to the game, the EA Sports team did not feel the Mascot Mode was necessary.
In the old NCAA Football games, Mascot Mode allowed you to play as the team's mascots. Instead of playing 22 players, the mode uses 22 highly-rated (99 OVR) mascots. Although primarily intended for humor, this mode was highly enjoyable when played with friends.
The mode's absence is a major disappointment to fans who anticipated it. Nonetheless, the game has a lot to offer that can make up for the absence of the mode. It remains to be seen whether EA Sports will bring it back in the game's next edition.
How many mascots are in College Football 25?
EA Sports did well in terms of mascots and their role on gameday in College Football 25. It was able to bring in a mascot experience that comes close to the real world.
There are 50 mascots across several college football programs in the game. This includes 40 team mascots and 10 real animals, which all bring unique aesthetics to the presentation of the game.
“Speaking of Gameday, Mascots are one of the most fun aspects of College Football. The variety and detail are unmatched across sports,” EA Sports wrote in a Deep Dive explanation.
“This encompasses everything from humans in massive costumes to real animals! We have 50 total mascots in the game including 40 Team Mascots and 10 real animals representing their schools.”
EA Sports did a lot of internal research on each mascot present in the game, finding out their uniqueness and how they resonate with fans.
“Along the way, we talked to alumni and our school contacts to find out even more little details," EA Sports wrote. "Mascots such as the Stanford tree that change every year or even animal mascots that grew over time, such as Ralphie from Colorado, we did adjustments on her as she aged into her reins.”
Overall, EA Sports was able to present a brilliant mascot experience on gameday in College Football 25, and this would have made the Mascot Mode exciting. Nonetheless, the roles the mascots play during matchups add an extra layer of excitement to the game.
