The rumor mill continues to churn during the college football offseason and people are beginning to speculate on what could happen with Nick Saban. One of the rumors running rampant is that the legendary coach could be coming back to the Alabama Crimson Tide, which is technically half right.
Saban is still working for the Crimson Tide, but not as a coach. Instead, he is an advisor for the program and is working 40 hours per week and making $500,000. While that is still a significant chunk of change, it is a massive dip in salary from his $11.41 million per year salary as the coach of the Roll Tide.
However, it is important to note that this does not involve coaching. Instead, the seven-time national championship coach will be in an advisory role.
It will be interesting to see how the Alabama Crimson Tide look with a new coach for the first time since the 2007 college football season. But it will not be Saban calling the plays for the program as we advance.
What will Nick Saban be doing instead of coaching the Alabama Crimson Tide this season?
The Alabama Crimson Tide are going to feel the loss of Nick Saban but they also have an extremely talented coach in Kalen DeBoer. The latter made the national championship game last season with the Washington Huskies. However, his job as an advisor for the program isn't his only responsibility.
He is also part of the ESPN broadcast crew during the college football season and will be in roles during College GameDay, similar to what he did during the 2024 NFL Draft.
Saban's brain and experience provide a unique position that he can give keen insight. It will be interesting to see how he does as a television host going into the college football season.
The next major event that we will see Nick Saban involved in will be the SEC Media Days on July 15-18 in Dallas, Texas. While it will take some time to get used to, it will be intriguing to see Saban's broadcasting chops on display.
