Nick Saban has retired as the coach of the Alabama Crimson Tide. Following his retirement, many wondered what the former college football coach would do. He retired citing health concerns and his age, but after his retirement, fans started linking him to a political career in Alabama.
Alabama politics reporter Josh Moon tweeted that Saban should run for US Senate in Alabama.
"Nick Saban for US Senate. Save us from Tommy Tuberville one more time."
Following Moon's tweet, the Alabama Democrats also said that they want it to happen.
"We officially second this."
Whether or not Saban will take the advice and run for Senate is uncertain at the moment, though.
Nick Saban's name was also betted on to be the vice president, along with Kamila Harris, following Joe Bidden's exit from the presidential candidacy.
Is Nick Saban a Democrat?
Nick Saban hasn't been one to talk politics and hasn't ever revealed if he's a Democrat, but all the signs point that way.
In 2018, Saban endorsed Sen. Joe Manchin - who is a Democrat - for his reelection. However, the two are childhood friends, so perhaps that was the reason and not because of Manchin being a Democrat.
So, at the moment, there's no truth that Nick Saban is a Democrat, as he has never revealed his political stance publicly. But if he runs for Senator of Alabama, he would run against Tommy Tuberville who has a rivalry with Saban.
Tuberville is the former coach of the Auburn Tigers. The two coached against each other once in 2007, where Tuberville and the Tigers got the better of Saban and the Crimson Tide.
Nick Saban retires as coach of Alabama
Nick Saban shocked the college football world this week when he announced his retirement as coach of the Alabama Crimson Tide.
Saban was under contract until 2031, but he cited his age and health concerns as his reason for stepping away.
"The University of Alabama has been a very special place to Terry and me," Saban said in a statement. "We have enjoyed every minute of our 17 years being the head coach at Alabama as well as becoming a part of the Tuscaloosa community. It is not just about how many games we won and lost, but it's about the legacy and how we went about it. We always tried to do it the right way.
"The goal was always to help players create more value for their future, be the best player they could be and be more successful in life because they were part of the program. Hopefully, we have done that, and we will always consider Alabama our home."
Nick Saban retired with a record of 292-71-1 and won seven national championships.
