Quinn Ewers is about to face his old school, the Ohio State Buckeyes, in Friday's Cotton Bowl. The stakes are high for everyone, as the Texas Longhorns and Ohio State will be fighting for an opportunity to feature in the national championship game on Jan. 20.
The game presents an opportunity for the former five-star recruit to show the school that recruited him out of high school what they missed when they allowed him to leave for Austin.
Ewers has thrown for 3189 yards this season, with 29 touchdown passes and eleven interceptions. His QBR is 76.1, which ranks 20th among quarterbacks in the nation.
Quinn Ewers breaks the silence regarding transfer portal rumors
Plenty of gossip surrounds the possibility of Quinn Ewers entering the transfer portal as soon as the College Football Playoff ends. On Thursday, he had this to say about this possibility:
“First off, I think I’d be doing a disservice to my teammates about me even thinking about what’s next, what’s right in front of us isn’t over it. That’s another thing that God has helped me so much through, is just being present in every single moment I’m in and not looking too far ahead because I’ll trip on what’s right in front of me. Again, that’s too selfish for me to even be thinking about what’s next for me.”
“Right now, I’m just not worried about all that stuff, people can say all they want to say. I’m just focused on Friday at this point in time,” Ewers added.
Many consider his former school and current rival, Ohio State, a likely destination for his final year of eligibility. The Buckeyes will be looking to get a new quarterback, as Will Howard is in his final year of eligibility.
The Cotton Bowl will played at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, and it's set to start at 7:30 p.m. ET. The game will air through ESPN.
