Colorado WR's collegiate career and draft eligibility explored

Travis Hunter was one of the most impressive players in the 2023 college football season. The Colorado two-way star was a consensus All-American in what was only his first season in the Football Bowl Subdivision. His performance caught the eye despite the struggles of the Buffaloes in 2023. Here's a look at what class he is in ahead of the 2024 season.

Is Travis Hunter a senior?

Travis Hunter will be entering his junior season in college football in the upcoming 2024 season. The cornerback played his sophomore season with the Colorado Buffaloes in 2023. The 6-foot-1, 185-pound wide receiver is majoring in psychology at CU.

Hunter started his college career at Jackson State in the Football Championship Subdivision. He was rated as the No. 1 high school prospect in the class of 2022 and initially committed to Florida State. However, Deion Sanders was able to convince Hunter to switch to an HBCU program.

The two-way star's decision to flip his commitment from the Seminoles to Jackson State was a surprise. He was the first five-star prospect to commit to an FCS program, and the decision was a major recruiting win for the HBCU landscape.

Following a brilliant freshman season with the Tigers, Travis Hunter transferred to Colorado. He followed Deion Sanders to Boulder after the Pro Football Hall of Famer was hired as the new coach of the program in December 2022. This led him to play his sophomore season with the Buffaloes.

Hunter is set for his junior year at Colorado in the 2024 college football season. It is anticipated that this will be his last season in college, and he will transition to the professional stage in 2025. He is anticipating ending his college career on a high note this season.

Travis Hunter's draft projection

With Travis Hunter expected to declare for the NFL Draft in 2025, there’s a lot of anticipation as to where he will land. Being a top talent, there's been a lot of talk about his draft prospects.

Considering his versatility as a player and his brilliant first season with Colorado, he is expected to be a high draft pick in the 2025 NFL draft. He's been projected in some quarters to be the first overall selection next year, as the pick is leaning more toward a defensive player.

Despite the early projections, Hunter will need a strong 2024 season to certify his place as a top pick in the draft. His ability to play on both sides of the field will undoubtedly make him a coveted prospect in the draft.
