Running back Trevor Etienne and the No. 5-ranked Georgia Bulldogs are set to play the No. 2-ranked Texas Longhorns on Saturday in the SEC Championship Game. However, as is always the case in college football, injuries will be a factor. Notably, Trevor Etienne has been dealing with a rib injury that has kept him out of the past three games.

His status is questionable heading into the SEC Championship Game.

Trevor Etienne's injury update

Trevor Etienne has missed the past three games with a rib injury, but he could make his return in the most important match of Georgia's season thus far. He was upgraded to questionable on the injury report this week and is expected to be a game-time decision.

Head coach Kirby Smart spoke about Etienne and defensive tackle Christen Miller, who is also dealing with an injury, during a media availability on Thursday. He said:

"They’ve been taking part in some parts of practice and taking reps and, you know, hopeful that those guys are able to do something. You know, they’re both listed as questionable right now."

Smart appears to be cautiously optimistic about Etienne heading into the SEC Championship Game. A final decision on his status will likely not be made before the start of the game.

What happened to Trevor Etienne?

Etienne initially suffered an upper-body injury that was later revealed to be a rib injury in a 34-20 win over Florida on November 2nd. However, he was able to participate the following week against Ole Miss but only had limited minutes. It is not clear whether he aggravated his injury in the game against the Rebels, but he has missed the three games since.

When will Trevor Etienne return?

Although no official decision has been made, there is a chance Etienne could return for Georgia in the SEC Championship Game against Texas. He is listed as questionable on the injury report, which usually indicates that there is a 50% chance that the player could be cleared to play. The coaching staff and medical staff will likely make a decision shortly before the start of the game.

If Etienne does not return against Texas, he could still play later in the season. Georgia is expected to participate in the college football playoff regardless of if they win or lose the SEC Championship Game. So, Etienne's season does not hinge on whether he plays this game.
