Texas Southern University Tigers quarterback Jace Wilson has entered the transfer portal. Wilson made his announcement through his own X account this past Thursday:

"1 more let’s work! Ready to go ball anywhere! Film available."

Wilson will use his final year of eligibility as a graduate transfer as he will be getting his degree at Texas Southern. Prior to his stint in Houston, he spent two years at Furman University in Greenville, South Carolina.

In two years with the Tigers, Wilson threw for 2,370 yards, completing 55.7% of his passes to go along with 14 touchdowns and 11 interceptions. He showed off his capability in the running game as well, rushing for 264 yards and scoring four touchdowns.

This year, Wilson got stuck behind the quarterback rotation of new head coach Chris Dishman. He was locked in a battle with K. J. Cooper, which he ultimately lost, and even when Cooper went down with an injury, Dishman went with backup Jordan Davis. After going 1-2 with Davis, Dishman eventually turned to Wilson and TSU went 3-2 the rest of the way.

Wilson will be looking for a situation where he could finish the final season of his college career playing for a more competitive team where his team could at least compete for a conference title. We look at five possible destinations Wilson could explore.

5 Transfer Portal destinations for Jace Wilson

#1, Jacksonville State Gamecocks

Tyler Huff is leaving this season, while Te’Sean Smoot and Logan Smothers have both entered the transfer portal, so the cupboard is bare for incoming head coach Charles Kelly. Freshman Caden Creel did not play a snap at quarterback this season so Kelly cannot be sure if he could trust him just yet.

Kelly could look Wilson’s way for a year while he evaluates the remaining quarterbacks in his room and tries to stay atop the Conference USA.

#2, Lamar University Cardinals

Beaumont is just an hour and a half drive away from Jace Wilson’s hometown of Missouri City so he will have the comforts of home if he transfers here. Current Lamar quarterback Robert Coleman posted relatively similar numbers to Wilson this season, completing 52% of his passes for 1,749 yards to go along with 15 touchdowns and eight interceptions.

Coleman also just finished his final year of eligibility so he will be gone after this season. Jace Wilson could be a capable hand to come in and run this offense plus Lamar University has been competitive in the Southland Conference.

#3, Abilene Christian Wildcats

With Maverick McIvor entering the transfer portal as a graduate transfer, head coach Keith Patterson must find a capable replacement for his quarterback who just posted the best season of his college career.

Replacing McIvor’s 3,847 yards and 30 touchdowns will be a tough ask, and Carson Haggard looks more suited to be a backup. Patterson could take a look at Jace Wilson and see if he could utilize his dual-threat ability to create a new wrinkle in his offense.

#4, Bowling Green Falcons

Connor Bazelak just finished his final season of his eligibility and he will be leaving the Bowling Green Falcons after two seasons. He posted solid numbers in his stint, with 3,044 yards throwing along with 18 touchdowns.

They have not scoured the transfer portal for a replacement yet, but Jace Wilson can be an option for them as he can thrive on coach Scot Loeffler’s offense. Wilson would also have a thousand-yard receiver at his disposal in tight end Harold Fannin Jr.

#5, Texas State Bobcats

The Texas State Bobcats have spent the last three seasons bringing in a transfer at quarterback and then seeing them leave after one season. They did it with Layne Hatcher in 2022, T. J. Finley in 2023, and then Jordan McCloud did the honors this year. McCloud just finished his last year of eligibility and the quarterback room for G. J. Kinne will have some uncertainty for next season.

They have recently added Nate Yarnell from Pittsburgh, who was a part-time starter this past season behind Eli Holstein. He posted 1,056 yards for 10 touchdowns. Behind him is a group of unproven freshmen.

The Bobcats could bring Jace Wilson in for competition and whoever loses out on that one will be a capable backup for them and will be crucial in keeping them competitive in the Sun Belt Conference.
