Jacksonville State's starting QB against the Liberty Flames in Week 10
Tyler Huff has started in all seven of the Gamecocks games in the 2024 college football season. Huff's ball security and dual-threat ability have been a catalyst for his team's four-game winning run heading into the game against the Flames. For the season, he has a stat line of 1,406 passing yards, eight touchdowns and four interceptions.
This is Huff's fifth and potentially last season of college football eligibility. It's his first with Jacksonville State, as he initially enjoyed spells with Presbyterian and then Furman University. He'll be looking to end the season with a flourish ahead of the 2025 NFL Draft.
Jacksonville State Gamecocks' QB depth chart
Tyler Huff isn't the only quarterback on the Gamecocks' roster. Heading into Week 10, he has senior Logan Smothers and redshirt sophomore Zion Turner as his QB2 and QB3, respectively.
Smothers started his college football career with the Nebraska Cornhuskers. He made some starts for the Cornhuskers, but after the 2022 season, he decided to take his talents to Jacksonville State.
He joined the program via the transfer portal and was a starter in the 2023 season. He has since become a backup option due to Huff's talents.
Turner is the third-string quarterback on the Gamecocks. He started his college football career with UConn and led the program to a Bowl Game in 2022. Turner did redshirt in 2023, so he retains his three years of collegiate football eligibility before entering the NFL Draft.
With Turner and Smothers, the Gamecocks have experience at the quarterback position in case the incumbent starter picks up an injury. Furthermore, all three quarterbacks have similar skill sets, so a like-for-like change should be fine with the okay style.
