James Evans’s Career

In his first season with the Indiana Hoosiers in 2021, Evans started all 12 games as a punter. At Iowa, he averaged 42.6 yards per punt on eight punts. He averaged 37.5 yards per punt on four kicks against Idaho and pinned one punt inside the 20-yard line against the Hawkeyes.

Evans was named to the conference coaches' and media panels' honorable mention All-Big Ten team as a sophomore. He was also on the preseason watch list for the Ray Guy Awards. He downed 13 punts inside the 10-yard line and 30 inside the 20-yard line, ranking third nationally, and started all 12 games as a punter.

In his junior year, the conference media panel named Evans to the third team of the All-Big Ten, and Phil Steele named him to the fourth team. The league coaches also named him honorable mention All-Big Ten. Evans participated in all 12 games and has three of the program's top-10 single-game punting averages (at least three punts).
