James Franklin has served as the head coach for Penn State Nittany Lions since 2014. Franklin played for the East Stroudsburg Warriors in the early 1990s as a quarterback and began his coaching career the next year with Kutztown, training wide receivers.
Over the next decade, Franklin took up roles that included coaching wide receivers, defensive secondary, and tight ends. He was also an offensive coordinator and recruiting coordinator at East Stroudsburg, Roskilde Kings, James Madison, Washington State, Idaho State, Maryland, Green Bay Packers, and Kansas State. He got his first head coaching job at Vanderbilt in 2011 before switching to Penn State University in 2014.
