Even former No. 1 Oregon isn't immune from the transfer portal. With highly-regarded QB recruit Jaron-Keawe Sagapolutele expected to enter the transfer portal, the Ducks have a big potential loss. Note that Sagapolutele is only expected to enter the portal – he may yet change his mind, enter the portal or withdraw.
But as long as we're talking about what might happen, here's a rundown on five potential portal landing spots for the Hawaii prep star, if he does choose to move on from Oregon.
Jaron-Keawe Sagapolutele Transfer Portal: 5 potential landing spots
#5. Oregon State
The Beavers have nabbed Duke's Malik Murphy in the portal, but that doesn't mean Sagapolutele couldn't compete for the job. Oregon State was one of his recruiting finalists out of high school. Sagapolutele might not mind a season spent as QB2, learning the offense and waiting for his turn as the Beavers' next top gun. Keep Oregon State in mind as a possibility.
#4. Hawaii
There's famously no place like home. The Rainbow Warriors used a senior quarterback in 2024's 5-7 season. Sagapolutele might decide to come back home as a conquering hero and get day-one playing time. It's the right choice for many homesick or bench-bound recruits, and it shouldn't be a big shock if Sagapolutele ends up playing at Hawaii.
#3. UNLV
There's a complicating factor here. New UNLV coach Dan Mullen recruited Virginia starter Anthony Colandrea in the portal. But that move faintly reeked of desperation. Mullen is a QB-first guy and the chance to upgrade talent at the position might be too much to pass up. Meanwhile, the Rebels had a wonderful 2024 campaign and are adding a top-level offensive guru to run the program.
#2. Utah State
Another finalist in Sagapolutele's high school recruitment, the Aggies could be an easy spot to land. A 4-8 Utah State team leaned mostly on a senior QB and could have immediate playing time available. Meanwhile, it's a solid offense that averaged 31.8 points per game in 2024. The defense is shaky, but that's not Sagapolutele's concern. He could be an Aggie next fall.
#1. California
Sagapolutele committed to California before he ultimately chose to attend Oregon. He's familiar with the school and the program. Meanwhile, the Golden Bears could use some help. The 6-7 Cal program lost starting QB Fernando Mendoza to Indiana via the transfer portal. Sagapolutele could have a great shot at immediate playing time at a power four program with Cal. Maybe the match works out.
