Jay Higgins is a collegiate football linebacker for the Iowa Hawkeyes for the last four seasons. Higgins started his football career at Brebeuf Jesuit Preparatory School, where he was a two-way standout player and played as both linebacker and tight end. Higgins holds the school record with 471 career tackles and recorded 151 tackles, five pass breakups and three forced fumbles, as a senior. Higgins was ranked #17 linebacker in the state of Indiana by 247Sports. The three-star prospect from Indianapolis started his collegiate football career with Iowa State Hawkeyes, despite considering offers from top programs like Air Force, Central Michigan, Kent State, Tulane, Western Illinois and Wisconsin.

In his freshman season, Higgins saw action in only six games and recorded only two tackles on the year. The following year as a sophomore, Higgins saw more playing time, as he appeared in all 14 games and tallied five tackles. Higgins had a breakout campaign in 2022, when he finished the season with 39 tackles, 1.5 tackles for loss and a half sack in 12 games for the Hawkeyes. Last season, Higgins turned heads in his first season as a full-time starter, when he led the team with 171 tackles which tied the school record for most in a single campaign. After a phenomenal 2023 season, Higgins along with his defensive partner, Sebastian Castro, were named preseason All-Americans by the Associated Press.
