Jay Norvell is a collegiate football coach who has been appointed by the Colorado State Rams Football Team since 2022. Norvell played as a defensive back for the Iowa Hawkeyes, where he earned an All-Big Ten selection. In 1985, he intercepted seven passes to lead the conference and was instrumental in Iowa's 10-2 season. He helped the team win the Big Ten Championship and also made an appearance in the Rose Bowl game. Norvell graduated in 1986 and played for the NFL team Chicago Bears in 1987 before beginning his coaching career. His college coaching career began as a graduate assistant at Iowa with his former coach Hayden Fry. Apart from playing and coaching football, Norvell is also an author. He wrote ‘Complete Wide Receiver' in 2012 where he focused on techniques related to wide receivers and their developments.
Jay Norvell changed the dynamics of the Nevada Program, in five seasons between 2017 and 2021, the program made four bowl game appearances. His offensive unit was one of the strongest in the Mountain West region. Norvell transformed many players, including the quarterback Carson Strong, who won two MW Offensive Player of the Year recognitions. Under Norvell, Nevada won four consecutive championships, two bowls, the 2018 Arizona Bowl and the 2020 Famous Idaho Potato Bowl. His 2021 team led the conference in passing offense, averaging 365.8 yards per game with the help of a first-team All-MW wide receiver, Romeo Doubs. Norvell received the College Coach of the Year from the National Coalition of Minority Football Coaches for his remarkable 2021 season.
