Texas running back Jaydon Blue was one of the Longhorns' best performers as they were beaten 28-14 by the rampant Ohio State Buckeyes in the Cotton Bowl Classic on Friday. It was the second consecutive year that the Longhorns fell just short of the national championship game, and on Sunday, the running back revealed on X that he had declared for the 2025 NFL draft.
Three landing spots for Jaydon Blue
The three likeliest landing spots for Jaydon Blue in the NFL after the 2025 draft are the Las Vegas Raiders, the Dallas Cowboys and the Denver Broncos.
#3. Las Vegas Raiders
The Las Vegas Raiders sacked coach Antonio Pierce at the end of the 2024 regular season after presiding over a 4-13 season that included the fewest rushing yards in the NFL. The Raiders averaged 3.6 yards per carry, and according to PFF, they also had the lowest-ranked rushing offense (56.5).
Jaydon Blue registered 730 yards on 154 carries and eight touchdowns for the Texas Longhorns and would constitute an upgrade on the Raiders running backs Sincere McCormick and Zamir White, who underwhelmed this season. The team's leading rusher, Alexander Mattison, managed 3.2 yards per carry, totaling 420 yards on the ground.
As a projected third-round pick according to the latest "AtoZ Sports" mock draft, Blue would add significant heft to the Raiders after being an important cog in the Texas Longhorns offense that powered coach Steve Sarkisian's team to a thrilling Cotton Bowl Classic and the verge of the national championship game.
#2. Dallas Cowboys
Dallas Cowboys' Rico Dowdle became the first undrafted RB in franchise history to pass 1,000 rushing yards in the team's 41-7 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles in December, continuing his stellar season. He has tallied 1,079 yards on 235 carries and two touchdowns, but he became an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season and would command a $10 million franchise tag to re-sign.
This opens the door for Jaydon Blue as an option for the Cowboys after he managed 368 receiving and 730 rushing yards and 14 touchdowns for the Longhorns this season.
#1. Denver Broncos
The Denver Broncos drafted Audric Estime No. 147 overall from the Notre Dame Fighting Irish via the 2024 NFL draft. He tallied 310 yards on 76 carries and two touchdowns, while veteran Javonte Williams registered 513 yards on 139 carries and four touchdowns.
The Broncos rushing offense was ranked No. 19 in the league, and Jaydon Blue's explosiveness would do a world of good for Sean Payton's offense. The Texas Longhorns running back showed the nimbleness he has become renowned for against the Ohio State Buckeyes in the Cotton Bowl Classic to tie up the game in the second half from a pass by embattled quarterback Quinn Ewers.
Jaydon Blue flashed his potential on the biggest stage in the College Football Playoff and was one of the Texas Longhorns' best performers against some of the best defenses in the nation.
