Penn State safety Jaylen Reed will play his senior year of college football in the 2024 season. Reed had an immensely successful high school football career at Martin Luther King High School where he helped the program to a state championship in 2018 as a sophomore. Reed was rated a four-star recruit by every major sports outlet and was ranked the No.272 overall prospect in the nation. During his junior season of high school football, Reed recorded 119 tackles, 11 tackles for loss, eight forced fumbles, and an interception. He has received offers from several top-tier programs like Akron, Florida State, Indiana, Iowa State, Michigan State, Minnesota, Oregon, Ole Miss and USC.

The four-star safety announced his commitment to Penn State at the end of 2020. In his true freshman season, Reed saw action in eight games and totaled six tackles and a quarterback hurry. In 2021 as a sophomore, Reed appeared in all 13 games and registered 31 tackles, two tackles for loss, and a quarterback hurry. He quickly established himself as a key player in the Penn State defense. Last season as a junior, Reed had a productive season for the Lions racking up 46 tackles with four tackles for loss, one pass breakup, and two interceptions earning himself a unanimous All-Big Ten honorable mention. Reed was also honored with defensive MVP in the 2024 Rose Bowl. After coming off a breakout junior campaign, the versatile Penn State safety will be the leading safety ahead of the 2024 season.
