Jeremiyah Love injury: Latest news on Notre Dame’s running back

Jeremiyah Love is the starting running back for the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. Love, a sophomore, is instrumental in how the No. 3 Fighting Irish plays.

Unfortunately for No. 3 Notre Dame (13-1), Love has recently dealt with a knee injury. Thus, before the Fighting Irish's College Football Playoff semifinal game against the No. 5 Penn State Nittany Lions (13-2) on Thursday, let's examine Love's availability.

Jeremiyah Love's injury update

According to WNDU News, Jeremiyah Love has been dealing with a knee injury since Notre Dame's 49-35 win over the USC Trojans on Nov. 30. Love showcased his grit as he played through the injury against the Indiana Hoosiers and Georgia Bulldogs in the first round and the quarterfinals of the playoffs, respectively.

Ahead of the Penn State matchup, Notre Dame coach Marcus Freeman confirmed Love's availability. Freeman is optimistic that he will be healthy for the most important game of their season.

Freeman reportedly wore a knee brace during Sunday's practice session. Notre Dame fans will hope that it's just a precaution rather than something more significant.

How has Jeremiyah Love performed this season?

Jeremiyah Love is enjoying an impressive second season at the collegiate level. He's become the Fighting Irish's RB1 and one of the NCAA's better rushers.

Love has amassed 148 carries for 1,076 yards and 16 touchdowns. His 7.3 yards per carry are among the best in CFB, and he's one of their biggest offensive threats to the Penn State Nittany. Love has amassed five 100-yard games. He'll aim to make it six if he's healthy enough to play on Thursday.

The Notre Dame Fighting Irish are a win away from securing their berth in the CFP title game in the first year of the expanded format. They'll enter the game on a high after dispatching the Georgia Bulldogs 23-10 in the quarterfinals.

They're up against a Penn State Nittany Lions team that sent Ashton Jeanty and the Boise State Broncos packing in the quarterfinals. The game will occur in Miami on Thursday at 7:30 p.m. ET.
