The Michigan Wolverines had cause for celebration in the recent NFL Draft, leaving former Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh emotional. They placed seven players in the first three rounds, the most ever for the Wolverines.
Quarterback J.J. McCarthy kicked things off for the Wolverines by being selected 10th overall by the Minnesota Vikings. This marks the sixth consecutive year Michigan has boasted a first-round pick. While Harbaugh has since moved on to coach the Los Angeles Chargers, he couldn't hide his pride for his former players.
During a post-draft press conference, he admitted getting emotional seeing his Wolverines drafted.
"It got emotional for me," Harbaugh said. "The little hairs on the arm were standing up. I'm a Charger, but those are my guys. It's neat. I love seeing some of the records broken with the amount of guys that were at the Combine.”
“The three players in a row. I don't know if that's ever been done in the draft, to have seven players picked in the first three rounds. That's a first for Michigan. Just so many cool things. I'm telling ya, it got emotional in a good way for me."
He even subtly sported his Michigan spirit with a blazer lining featuring the team's logos. The Chargers themselves added to the Wolverines' success story by selecting linebacker Junior Colson in the third round.
Colson, the No. 69th overall pick, was praised by Harbaugh. Haunaugh highlighted his versatility and leadership qualities.
"He checks every box," Harbaugh said. "Our scouts had him as the top inside linebacker in the draft. He's got the size, he's a downhill backer, but he can also go sideline to sideline. Knows the system. Big-time competitor."
Jim Harbaugh gets inked to celebrate a championship
Jim Harbaugh's commitment to Michigan goes beyond the coaching playbook. Harbaugh returned to Ann Arbor on Saturday to celebrate the Wolverines' undefeated championship season with a tattoo.
It was a block "M" with "15-0" inscribed underneath, immortalizing the Wolverines' perfect record. This celebratory ink wasn't the only highlight of Harbaugh's visit. He also received his championship ring alongside the team.
Former cornerback Mike Sainristil captured the tattoo and posted it on social media. While enduring the tattoo, Harbaugh displayed his characteristic humor, he said,
"I'm impervious to pain."
He even hinted at the possibility of future additions, much to the amusement of running back Donovan Edwards, who praised Harbaugh for being a "man of his word."
During Michigan’s playoffs, Harbaugh had told his players to get his first tattoo if their team secured the national title. Now, Harbaugh did just that.
