In his sophomore season at South Florida in 2022, he caught 37 passes for 551 yards and three touchdowns, playing in 11 games. On special teams, he played as a kick returner, averaging nearly 30 yards per return, and scoring a touchdown. His all-around performance earned him First-Team All-AAC honors as a kick returner.

Jimmy Horn Jr. transferred to Colorado in 2023, where he recorded 58 receptions, 567 receiving yards, and six touchdowns, starting in every game. His debut for Colorado was particularly notable, as he set a career high with 11 receptions against TCU and threw his first passing touchdown.

During his senior year, he caught 42 passes for 736 yards and nine touchdowns and also rushed for 196 yards and three touchdowns.
