When you talk about agents in sports, Jimmy Sexton's name is one of the most well-known and influential ones. He's the co-head of Creative Arts Agency's football division and represents some of the top college football coaches in the game.
According to his Sports Business Journal page, Sexton was the youngest licensed agent by the NFLPA. His bio says that he has negotiated over $3.3 billion in NFL contracts for clients like Eli Manning and Matthew Stafford. In this article, we will have a look at Sexton's client list and everyone he works with.
Jimmy Sexton's client list
Reggie White
Sexton's journey as an agent began because of a strong friendship with a former college friend who went on to become a star in the NFL. It was none other than former NFL defensive end and Super Bowl XXXI winner Reggie White.
According to ESPN's Mark Schlabach, Jimmy Sexton worked as a 20-year-old equipment manager for the Tennessee Volunteers when Reggie White was considered a top draft prospect on the team.
During a practice session for the Citrus Bowl, NFL agent Robery Fraley and then Memphis Showboats coach Pepper Rodgers approached Sexton to make a $1.5 million offer for White.
Both Sexton and White discussed the deal later in their dorm room. The former RB told him that he was approached by other agents as well and eventually asked Sexton to represent him.
Mike Norvell
Sexton is also the agent of Florida State Seminoles coach Mike Norvell. After Norvell led them to an ACC Championship and a 13-1 record this year, the agent helped Norvell receive a new contract extension that keeps the 42-year-old coach in Florida for a few more years.
Norvell recently signed an eight-year extension worth more than $10 million per year. This is definitely a boost from the $7.3 million per year he was making previously.
Norvell has Jimmy Sexton to thank for helping him secure a good deal amidst his name being a hot commodity to replace Nick Saban in Alabama.
Nick Saban
Sexton has also grown in influence in college football, thanks to his partnership with former Alabama coach Nick Saban. Saban hired the agent after the 1999 season to negotiate a contract for him to leave Michigan State for LSU.
He also helped him negotiate a deal to become the coach of the Miami Dolphins in 2004. Before Saban's legendary run with Alabama, Sexton played an influential role in convincing him to join the Crimson Tide.
Despite Saban saying that he would not coach in Tuscaloosa, Sexton assured then-athletic director Mal Moore that he would change Saban's mind. Eventually, Saban agreed to take the job and left behind a legacy of winning six national championships with them in 17 years before retiring on Wednesday.
Kirby Smart
Jimmy Sexton also had Georgia coach Kirby Smart on his client list. Smart is known to lead what's known as the next dynasty in college football.
He led the Bulldogs to consecutive national championships and was expected to three-peat in the 2023 season. Unfortunately, the team's campaign came to an end following a loss to Alabama in the SEC Championship game, which left them out of the playoffs altogether.
Sexton helped set up a meeting between former Georgia AD Greg McGarity and Smart in 2015. Smart was working as Alabama's defensive coordinator back then under Saban.
Smart was later hired by the team and eventually shaped the program into what it is today. He also signed a contract extension in 2022 through the 2031 season, earning around $10.7 million per year along with bonuses.
Kale DeBoer
Jimmy Sexton is also the agent of Nick Saban's successor and new Alabama coach Kalen DeBoer.
DeBoer spent the last two seasons with Washington and led them to a Pac-12 championship and the CFP Championship game in the 2023 season. The coach hired Sexton last year and played a major role in helping him secure a coaching gig with the Crimson Tide.
However, this is not the end of Sexton's CFB client list. He's also believed to represent the likes of Steve Sarkisian, Lane Kiffin, Dan Lanning and a few other coaches.
Apart from representing various college football coaches, Jimmy Sexton is also known to work with sports figures like Scottie Pippen, Julio Jones, Jason Witten and others.
