Deion Sanders' Colorado was one of the most talked-about teams in the 2023 college football season. The Buffaloes' matchup against Oregon was among the most-watched games of the season, with a viewership of 10.03 million fans.

Even though Sanders' team had a 3-0 start as they beat TCU, Nebraska and Colorado State, its winning streak was interrupted by the devastating 42-6 loss against Dan Lanning's Oregon, followed by an overall 4-8 record.

After the 2023 season, Sanders made many crucial changes to the team by adding new offensive linemen like five-star Jordan Seaton and UTEP transfer Justin Mayers. He has also added many NFL pros to his coaching staff, including Warren Sapp and New York Giants head coach Pat Shurmur as the Buffaloes' offensive coordinator.

On "The Joel Klatt Show" on Tuesday, Klatt talked about how Colorado can secure a spot in the 2024 College Football Playoff:

"Shedeur was one of the best quarterbacks in the country when protected. ... He was sacked 50-plus times, which is an unbelievable number.
"So, when I'm sitting here, I'm looking at your team, your improvement on the offensive line, and I'm thinking to myself, 'OK, if Shedeur only gets sacked half of the time – so, let's say less than 25 times, which is still a lot, by the way. There are guys out there, Bo Nix from Oregon got sacked like six times. – I'm saying, like, if you go under 25, that's four more wins. Easy.'"

Deion Sanders discusses his future at Colorado

One of the major hiccups in Deion Sanders' coaching career until now has been convincing recruits and their parents about his future at Colorado, which was fairly translated in the number of players who entered the transfer portal after the 2023 season.

Many individuals assume Sanders will leave the program after his sons Shedeur and Shilo Sanders get drafted in 2025.

In an interview on the channel "All the Smoke," Sanders said (Timestamp: 46:00):

“I tell them the truth. I’m a father, not a baby daddy. I don’t follow my kids. I pave roads for my kids. I build generational wealth for my kids. I lead my kids; I don’t follow my kids. I’m not that kind of father. I have work to do here. I absolutely love it here. It’s beautiful here."
