The Colorado Buffaloes are prepared to make a switch at quarterback next season with it looking like current quarterback Shedeur Sanders is heading into the 2025 NFL draft. There's still no distinct starting quarterback for next season for the program.
While speaking to the media on Tuesday, CU coach Deion Sanders discussed how incoming five-star quarterback Julian Lewis will fit with the program:
"He's everything we desire in a quarterback. He's smart. He can make every throw. He has pocket awareness, pocket presence. He's a darn leader. But most of all, he's a winner. People forget that category when they're looking at quarterbacks: Is he a winner? ... That's the intangible you want. You don't want a guy who got his butt kicked his whole life."
Julian Lewis originally committed to the USC Trojans earlier this year before de-committing and then signing with the Colorado Buffaloes.
Fans react to Deion Sanders' comments about Julian Lewis
College football fans reacted to Deion Sanders' comments about Julian Lewis.
"Juju for heismen," one wrote.
"If he is that guy, prepare him to START Week 1. You begged for him to come, now you have him. No need for a starting transfer QB from another school who has NFL aspirations, to be the QB only to be replaced sometime during the season. Staub/Ponder should compete for the job," one user commented.
People took sides on what Deion Sanders said regarding needing to be a winner to be successful at the collegiate level.
"Short sighted, sometimes the guys who had their butt kicked are the biggest dawgs," a social media poster replied.
"We ready and your CU Buff fan will be watching and cheering you on. Go be GREAT," someone else commented.
While playing at Carrollton, Julian Lewis started for three seasons and proved to be a winner on the field. He posted a 39-3 record, including going a perfect 14-0 as it prepares for the state championship game.
