Seven-time national champion Nick Saban passed the baton to former Washington head coach Kalen DeBoer after 17 glorious years at Alabama. Saban announced his retirement on Jan. 11, 2024, soon after their loss against Jim Harbaugh's Michigan in the Rose Bowl.

Fans were not only shocked but also disheartened to see one of the greatest coaches the game has seen announce his retirement. However, fans were fairly excited to see DeBoer take the reigns in his place.

In a conversation with Paul Finebaum, Nick Kelly from Tuscaloosa applauded DeBoer's work at Alabama:

"I think he's winning the offseason. He's always saying the right things, talking to the right people. It all come down to: Can he win on the field in the fall? We'll see. There's no reason to believe that he can't, because he's won everywhere he's been." (0:10)

CFB analyst doubts Kalen DeBoer's ability to match Nick Saban's success

Kalen DeBoer is among the best coaches in the country right now, and after Washington's triumphant run in the 2023 college football season, fans would be eager to see him take forward the same momentum at Alabama.

DeBoer has won three NAIA titles between 2006 and 2009 with Sioux Falls. Despite his winning streaks, he has yet to win a national championship.

During a podcast called "Crain and Company," CFB analyst Matt Moscona talked about his reservations when it comes to DeBoer reaching for Nick Saban's level of success at Alabama.

"It is just an absolute impossibility for Kalen DeBoer to contiue to win at the level that Nick Saban won, and he is at a place where the people are absolute lunatics. And respectfully, I know that's not going to come across respectfully, but the level of expectation at that program and that fanbase is so out of whack that there is no chance he could ever possibly meet their expectations."
