Kirk Ferentz is a college football coach and has been appointed as the head coach for the Iowa Hawkeyes Football Team since 1999. Ferentz served the Hawkeyes as the head coach for 24 years. Throughout his coaching career, he earned numerous accolades including being named the 2015 Eddie Robinson FWAA Coach of the Year, 2015 Dodd Trophy Coach of the Year, and 2015 Woody Hayes Coach of the Year by the Columbus Touchdown Club. He was also the AFCA Region 3 Coach of the Year and Big Ten Coach of the Year which was awarded by both Dave McClain and Hayes-Schembechler in 2015. Ferentz also won the Paul "Bear" Bryant and George Munger Coach of the Year awards in 2015. Earlier, he received the award of AFCA Regional Coach of the Year in 2009, Big Ten Coach of the Year on many occasions, and was named the National Coach of the Year in 2002 by the Associated Press and Walter Camp Foundation.
He was the offensive line coach for the NFL teams Cleveland Browns and Baltimore Ravens from 1993 to 1998. He coached the University of Maine for nine years from 1981-89, before being the head coach, Ferentz also was the offensive line coach at Iowa. Ferentz was a graduate assistant, offensive line coach, and defensive coordinator at Worcester Academy. As of December 2024, Kirk has an overall record of 216–144 over 28 years of his coaching career. His record at Iowa stands at 204–123, including 128 wins in the Big Ten conference. Brian Ferentz is the eldest son of Iowa head coach Kirk Ferentz. Brian is a former football player and is selected as the offensive analyst for the Maryland Terrapins, as of December 2024. Brian began his football career with the Iowa Hawkeyes in 2001 as an offensive lineman. He played his collegiate career under his father, head coach Kirk Ferentz. Following his college career, Brian played in the NFL for teams like the Atlanta Falcons and the New Orleans Saints. Brian began his coaching career with the New England Patriots in 2008. In 2012, Brian took up a coaching position with the Iowa Hawkeyes. In 2017, Brian was promoted to the post of offensive coordinator alongside his dad.
James Ferentz
James Ferentz is the assistant offensive line coach for the New York Giants, as of 2024. James was a dual-sport athlete during high school, participating in wrestling and football. Completing his graduation and college football career at Iowa, James began his professional football career with the Houston Texans as an unrestricted free agent in 2014. He also played for the Denver Broncos and New England Patriots.
Steven Ferentz
Steven Ferentz is the youngest son of Kirk and Mary Ferentz. As of December 2024, Steven Ferentz is the outside linebackers coach for the South Dakota Coyotes. Steven completed his college football career at Iowa and moved on to coaching with the Hawkeyes as a graduate assistant. In 2018, he worked as a graduate assistant for Central Michigan. In the NFL, he worked with the Miami Dolphins for three seasons from 2020 to 2022.
