The UCF Knights' quarterback, Kenneth Dewayne "KJ" Jefferson Jr., was born on May 20, 2001. In 2019, Nick Starkel, a transfer from Texas A&M, earned the starting spot, and Jefferson spent his rookie year at Arkansas as Starkel's backup. Against LSU, he received his first career start. Before redshirting, he completed the season by running for two touchdowns and completing 14 of his 31 passes for 197 yards with one interception. Jefferson was Feleipe Franks' backup in 2020 as a redshirt freshman. Making one start in place of an injured Franks, he played in five games overall. At the end of the season, he completed 20 of 41 passes for 295 yards; two touchdowns came from rushing and three from passing.
As Arkansas's starting quarterback for all twelve games in 2021, Jefferson contributed to the Razorbacks' 8–4 overall record and 4–4 SEC record at the end of the season. This featured victories over Texas in a non-conference match, Texas A&M (in the Southwest Classic), LSU (in the Battle for the Boot), and Missouri (in the Battle Line Rivalry) in trophy games. In 2022, Jefferson started 12 of the 13 games as Arkansas' starting quarterback and led Arkansas to a 7-6 overall record and a 3-5 mark in SEC play. Since Jefferson was injured, he missed the LSU game. In the Liberty Bowl of 2022, Arkansas defeated Kansas 55-53 in three overtime periods to win their second consecutive bowl match. After completing 19 of 29 passes for 287 yards and two touchdowns and running for 130 yards and two touchdowns on 14 carries, Jefferson was selected as the MVP of the Liberty Bowl. Following his five-year stint with the program, Jefferson decided to transfer to the University of Central Florida for his final season of college football.
