There is speculation that Lane Kiffin is going to leave the Ole Miss Rebels and go to another program. Most of the talking linked Kiffin with the Florida Gators, who may want to move on from current coach Billy Napier.
But, if this were to happen, how much would Kiffin owe the Rebels program?
Lane Kiffin Contract Buyout explained
Lane Kiffin is contracted to Ole Miss until the end of the 2029 season. In 2022, he signed a six-year extension with the program. This was extended by a year in 2023, meaning that if Kiffin were to serve the whole of his contract, he would be in Oxford until the end of the decade.
However, if Kiffin left early, this would require him to buy out his contract. If the rumors surrounding his potential move to the Gators become true, Kiffin would have to pay Ole Miss $4 million, according to the Clarion Ledger.
As his contract progresses, this amount will decrease by $1 million a year. This will happen until 2027 when the buyout cost for the remaining two seasons of the contract will be $1.5 million.
What if Ole Miss Fire Lane Kiffin?
If Ole Miss fired Kiffin, it would prove costly for the program. Per his contract, he is owed 80% of his remaining pay. This means that if Kiffin were to be fired at the end of the 2024 regular season, Ole Miss would owe him $36,590,000.
How much money does Lane Kiffin make?
The Clarion Ledger stated the condition and pay that Kiffin may receive during his time with the Ole Miss Rebels.
