The NFL is an exciting league and the fast paced game, with lots of action all around means that there is no dearth of entertainment. If watching an NFL match on television at home can provide so much enjoyment, just imagine the electric atmosphere that can be found in a stadium. With a throng of fans coming together to cheer on their teams, these NFL stadiums can become some of the loudest ones in the country. They also offer tons of fan experiences and the overall entertainment value is worth the money.

San Francisco 49ers Home Venue

Levi’s Stadium is where the San Francisco 49ers play their home games. Situated in Santa Clara, California, the stadium comes in the Bay Area and is just west of the bigger San Jose city and is roughly 40 miles south of San Francisco.

The Stadium is named after Levi Strauss & Co, as the company purchased the naming rights in 2013. Levi’s Stadium has now been the 49ers home for nearly a decade now making it one of the more recent stadiums in the NFL.

Being a multi-purpose stadium, various sports and events can be held within the stadium such as concerts, community events, motocross, and more. In fact, the stadium will also play host to multiple matches during the 2026 Fifa World Cup.

Levi's Stadium Capacity

The stadium’s capacity is more or less the average capacity you would find in standard NFL stadiums across the United States. The normal capacity is 68,500 however, it can be expanded to seat nearly 75,000 for important events such as the Fifa World Cup or the Super Bowl also.

Even so, the record attendance has been well over the 75,000 expandable capacity as the record attendance has gone over 80,000 during a couple of concert events. Levi’s Stadiums also has a capacity of 174 luxury suites.

Levi's Stadium History

Work officially started on Levi’s Stadium on April 19, 2012. Earlier, the 49ers used to play their home games in Candlestick Park Stadium which was located in Hunters Point, San Francisco. However, strong winds would create very unfavorable conditions for playing. This could possibly have been one of the reasons behind the 49ers looking to move towards a different site.

The stadium opened on July 17, 2014 and the first event to take place was a Major League Soccer match played between the San Jose Earthquakes and the Seattle Sounders FC. The 49ers played their first regular season match in the new stadium on September 14, 2014 against the Chicago Bears but unfortunately lost by a score of 20-28.

Levi's Stadium Construction and Cost

The official groundbreaking of Levi’s Stadium took place on April 19, 2012 while the first steel beams were laid down On July 30, 2012. Almost 14 months later, the first seats of the stadium were also in place. The estimated cost of construction is around $1.3 billion making it one of the most expensive stadiums in the NFL.

Designed by a renowned architectural firm known as HNTB, the main focus was to construct the stadium with as much green technology as possible and to create a multi-purpose venue providing top notch fan experience. The stadium uses natural grass as its turf and is constructed with an open roof. More importance is given to the seats so that they are comfortable enough for special needs fans. Most of the luxury suites are located on one side of the field.

The uniqueness of this stadium is that it is believed to be the first or at least one of the first stadiums to feature a green roof as well as solar panels. Going another step forward with their environmental sustainability, the stadium converted 6,500 square feet of green roof into a rooftop farm.
