On Friday afternoon, the Oklahoma Sooners reportedly agreed to a six-year contract extension with coach Brent Venables. The money associated with the extension is subject to board approval. However, it is expected to be a significant raise from his current six-year, $43.5 million, per ESPN's Pete Thamel.

Although the announcement was shocking, the team is coming off a successful 10-3 season last year.

Fans had mixed reactions on X to the reported deal. Some felt Venables shouldn't have been offered the contract.

What can fans expect from the Oklahoma Sooners in 2024?

Coach Brent Venables and the Oklahoma Sooners will look to make an immediate impact in their first season of being in the Southeastern Conference. When looking at the DraftKings Sportsbook, the Sooners are not expected to make the College Football Playoff. They are +450 to make the 12-team playoff while -700 to miss.

The Sooners have a difficult schedule, as they will have to face the Texas Longhorns, Tennessee Volunteers and Alabama Crimson Tide at home. On the road, they will go against the Auburn Tigers, Missouri Tigers and LSU Tigers. The schedule will be a serious improvement from where they have been.
