Liberty vs Kennesaw State Preview
Liberty is a sizeable -24-point favorite while the over/under is 46 points.
The Liberty Flames are leading Conference USA and are one of the front-runners to take the Group of Five spot in the college football playoffs. The Flames are coming off their open week. Before that, Liberty won in OT against FIU, where Quinton Cooley rushed for 174 yards and two touchdowns on 29 carries.
“We made our decision … that we were going to ride or die with him (Cooley),” coach Jamey Chadwell said, via Liberty.edu. “If we were going to go down, we were going to go down giving the ball to our most productive player on offense.”
Although Liberty barely beat FIU, the Flames knew they would be able to get the win in OT.
“We got into overtime, and nobody on that sideline had any doubt. They knew they were going to win,” Chadwell said. “I think the other sideline was hoping. We were knowing. There’s a big difference in that.”
This season, Liberty has been led by Kaidon Sutler who has thrown for 1,074 yards, seven touchdowns and one interception. Cooley has rushed for 545 yards and six TDs.
Defensively, Dexter Ricks Jr. has recorded two interceptions, TJ Bush Jr. has 4.5 sacks, and Joseph Carter has 30 tackles.
Kennesaw State, meanwhile, is looking for its first win of the season. The Owls have struggled this season and are coming off a 14-5 loss to Middle Tennessee as Kennesaw State's offense has struggled.
The Owls are led by Michael Benefield who rushed for 242 yards and a TD. Defensively, Kennesaw State has only recorded one interception as a team, while Garland Benyard has three sacks, and Milon Jones leads 38 tackles.
Kennesaw State has not been good this season as the Owls' offense has been an issue. Liberty's defense should be able to force a turnover or two in this spot to help the Flames cruise to a lopsided win.
The Owls will struggle to score again as Kennesaw State will suffer a blowout loss here to fall to 0-7.
Prediction: Liberty 37, Kennesaw State 10
