The Louisville Cardinals go on the road to play the Clemson Tigers on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. ET. The game can be seen on ESPN.
Louisville (5–3, 3–2 Atlantic Coast Conference) is coming off a 31–25 road win over Boston College. Meanwhile, the No. 11 Clemson (6–1, 5–0) is coming off its bye week and beat Virginia 48–31 before that.
Louisville vs Clemson: Preview
Louisville is a 10-point underdog on the road while the over/under is set at 62.5 points.
The Cardinals are coming off a conference road win against Boston College. In the win, Louisville was led by Tyler Shough who threw for 332 yards and two touchdowns, while Isaac Brown rushed for two touchdowns and 85 yards.
However, the Cardinals will have their hands full against this rising Clemson offense.
"Like every quarterback, he's had a couple of struggles along the way, which is good for quarterbacks, but he's over the hump now," coach Jeff Brohm said, via the team website. "I think he's thrown for 20 touchdowns, three picks, over 500 yards of offense five out of six games, or six out of seven, I'm not sure, but he's playing at a high level. They've built the offense around him and what his strengths are, and right now it's clicking on all cylinders."
"They're playing really good football and are hitting on all cylinders," Brohm said. "On offense the quarterback is playing at a high level and has good weapons around him. They have good balance and they're really good at home. I think he feels great about the direction his team is going, they have a chance to be as good as anybody. We will have our hands full going and playing a team this hot on their home field."
Louisville is led by Shough who's thrown for 2,348 yards, 20 touchdowns and five interceptions. Brown has rushed for 649 yards and six touchdowns, and Ja'Corey Brooks leads the way with 799 receiving yards and eight touchdowns.
The Cardinals offense is legit and Clemson coach Dabo Swinney believes it's the best they've faced since Georgia.
“They can score points on anybody and really, really do a great job of putting pressure on you offensively to have to match them,” Swinney said, via ClemsonWire. “They move the ball on everyone. To me, this is certainly the most complete and best offense we’ve seen since Georgia.
“It’s a really good group. Their quarterback is a future pro and knows what the heck he’s doing. They’re really well-coached and I think (Shough is) an extension of the coach out on the field.”
However, Clemson's defense has turned a corner since losing to Georgia in Week 1. Cade Klubnik is also playing much better at under center as he has found his chemistry with the receivers.
This should be a high-scoring back-and-forth game, but Clemson's offense is much better than Louisville's. The Tigers' defense is slightly better which will be the difference in this game.
Prediction: Clemson 38, Louisville 27.
