LSU will get a new quarterback in the 2024 college football season following the transition of Jayden Daniels to the NFL. The Tigers have had one of the most explosive offenses in college football under Brian Kelly and that is bound to continue in the upcoming season.
Without a doubt, the next starting quarterback will be crucial to LSU's offensive success in 2024. Daniels won the Heisman Trophy with his performance in the Tigers’ backfield last season and the responsibility of keeping the standard rest on the program’s next starting quarterback.
Here’s a look at who will be the Tigers’ starting quarterback in the 2024 college football season:
Who will be Brian Kelly’s QB1 at LSU in 2024?
Garrett Nussmeier
Garrett Nussmeier is expected to secure the starting quarterback role at LSU in the 2024 college football season. The redshirt junior started his career in Baton Rouge in 2021 and has appeared in 18 games for the Tigers so far, starting only one of them.
Nussmeier's record at the program gives him an edge over other options. He's thrown for 1,720 yards and 11 touchdowns in his limited playing time for the Tigers. He also comes from a family with football heritage, being the son of former NFL QB Doug Nussmeier.
AJ Swann
AJ Swann transferred to LSU this offseason after playing his first two seasons in college football at Vanderbilt. He shared the starting role in both seasons with the Commodores, boasting 2,731 passing yards and 22 touchdowns in 15 appearances.
Swann comes in with significant SEC experience and has proven what he could do despite previously playing for a struggling program. He will be out to give Nussmeier significant competition for the starting role next season.
Rickie Collins
Rickie Collins started his career at LSU in 2023 and took a redshirt after he was named the third-string quarterback. He had limited time on the gridiron and only appeared in one game last season.
While his starting chances are low for 2024, he is one to watch out for in the future. He has great potential to earn the starting role in the next few years.
Colin Hurley
Colin Hurley is the newest addition to the Tigers quarterback room. According to ESPN, he was rated a four-star prospect in the class of 2024 and was the No. 14 quarterback.
Following his participation in the Elite 11 and U.S. Army All-American Bowl, Hurley is undoubtedly a promising prospect who could play a crucial role for LSU in the future.
