The South Carolina Gamecocks were able to strike first as LaNorris Sellers ran in a four-yard touchdown to give the Gamecocks a 7-0 led on their opening possession and that would be the only scoring in the first quarter.
Alex Herrera would kick a 28-yard field goal early in the second quarter to make it 10-0 South Carolina. Raheim Sanders would have a 10-yard rushing touchdown to make it 17-0 and that is where things began to turn. Caden Durham ran in a touchdown for 26 yards to get the LSU Tigers on the scoreboard, trailing 17-7.
Damian Ramos would knock down a 28-yard field goal of his own and make this a 17-10 deficit. LaNorris Sellers would have a massive 75-yard rushing touchdown on the first play of the following drive and make it 24-10 Gamecocks. Kyren Lacy would secure a 12-yard reception in the end zone, but they failed to convert on a two-point attempt so the score going into halftime was 24-16
The only score in the third quarter would be Caden Durham running in a nine-yard touchdown but LSU failed to convert a two-point attempt once again and it would be 24-22 South Carolina.
LSU would secure their first lead of the game when Mason Taylor caught a two-yard pass and make it 29-24 Tigers. The Gamecocks would add 10 points in the next few minutes as Raheim Sanders ran in a 66-yard touchdown (failed two-point conversion) and Alex Herrera knocked down a 42-yard field goal to make it 33-29 Gamecocks.
The LSU Tigers would go down the field quickly and with 72 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter, they would have Josh Williams run in a two-yard touchdown and take a 36-33 lead. South Carolina would march down the field but Herrera would miss a game-tying 55-yard field goal attempt as time expired.
