The Wisconsin Badgers hired Luke Fickell away from Cincinnati in 2022 after he led the Bearcats to the Fenway Bowl. However, not even after two full seasons, many Badgers fans want Fickell to be fired.
Fickell went 7-6 in his first season and has the Badgers off to a 2-1 start. However, Wisconsin was blown out by Alabama in Week 3. It was a frustrating loss, and after the game, social media was loud for Fickell to be fired.
Following the fanbase starting to grow frustrated with Fickell, here are three potential replacements for the Wisconsin coach.
3 potential candidates to replace Luke Fickell if he gets fired
#1. Chip Kelly
Chip Kelly is one of the best offensive minds in college football, and he left his head coaching job at UCLA to take the offensive coordinator position at Ohio State.
Kelly is leading a dominant Ohio State offense in 2024, and if the Buckeyes win the national championship, he will likely look for a head coaching job. He led Oregon to a national championship appearance in 2010.
Kelly has also done a good job recruiting in his career, and a spark for the Badgers offense could be what's needed to return to glory days.
#2. Will Stein
Will Stein is one of the top offensive coordinators and Oregon is paying him like it. His salary is reportedly among the Top 10 for OCs in the nation.
If the Ducks can win the Big Ten and get to the college football playoffs, Stein will have offers to be a coach. He could help turn around a Wisconsin Badgers team that has struggled on offense.
Stein helped Oregon lead the country with 619 total points last season and helped turn Bo Nix into a first-round QB in the NFL.
#3. Jason Candle
Jason Candle is the coach of the Toledo Rockets and could be in line to become a coach of a Power Four school.
Candle has led Toledo to MAC titles in 2017 and 2022. As the coach of the Rockets, he's 68-35. In Week 3, Candle also went on the road and led Toledo to a stunning 41-17 win over Mississippi State.
It was a statement win, and Candle's name will continue to be brought up for bigger coaching jobs.
