Maalik Murphy is a quarterback for the Duke Blue Devils and will be redshirted as a sophomore in 2024. He hails from Inglewood, California, and graduated from Junipero Serra High School. Murphy transferred from the University of Texas to Duke University in 2024. He was redshirted as a freshman in both, 2022 and 2023. Throughout the 2023 season at Texas, he appeared in seven games and started in two. He threw 40 passes out of 71 attempts, registering 477 yards for three touchdowns and one interception. Murphy was impressive against the Rice Owls, he completed three successful passes for 40 yards. He played in the Big 12 Championship Game against Oklahoma State and led the Longhorns to a victory with a 12-yard pass. Murphy also received a selection in the Academic All-Big 12 Second Team and the Big 12 Commissioner's Honor Roll in 2023.
Maalik Murphy had a remarkable career at Junipero Serra High School, helping the team to an 11-4 record in 2021. He made an appearance in the CIF Division 1-A state championship game. As a senior, Murphy passed for 2,954 yards for 22 touchdowns, 10 interceptions, and rushed for six touchdowns. He registered 1,242 yards for 12 touchdowns across six games during the playoffs. Despite breaking his collarbone during his senior season, Murphy returned to help his team finish the season with a 10-1 record. Murphy is an all-state honoree for his remarkable high school career and was selected to play in the Elite 11 Finals. He was ranked as a four-star recruit by Rivals, 247Sports, and ESPN. Murphy was also rated as the No. 10 quarterback in California's Top 25 for the Class of 2022 by USA Today.
