Marcus Freeman is the head coach for the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, as of 2024. Marcus Freeman began his coaching career as a graduate assistant at Ohio State in 2010. Freeman was the linebackers coach at Kent State from 2011-2012 and Purdue from 2013 to 2015. In 2016, he was promoted to the post of co-defensive coordinator at Purdue while continuing his role as the linebackers coach. He transferred to the Cincinnati Bengals in 2017 as their defensive coordinator and assistant linebackers coach and resigned in 2020. Freeman's defensive unit at Cincinnati was remarkable, which helped him become the defensive coordinator at Notre Dame in 2021. Later, that same year, he was promoted to the post of Head Football Coach at Notre Dame Fighting Irish.

His first-ever bowl game was in the 2010 Sugar Bowl for Ohio State. He served Kent State in 2012 at the GoDaddy.com Bowl. Freeman was also the defensive coordinator at Cincinnati, and he went on to participate in the Military Bowl in 2018, the Birmingham Bowl in 2019, and the Peach Bowl in 2020.
