For the second time in his college career, Marvin Jones Jr. entered the transfer portal. The former Georgia Bulldogs edge rusher transferred to Florida State before the 2024 season looking for better luck.

Jones Jr. had 25 tackles, four sacks, and a forced fumble in nine games for the 2-10 Seminoles. He has 41 tackles, six sacks and two forced fumbles in his college career.

The junior from Coral Gables, Florida still has one more year of eligibility left, He is expected to be in high demand in the portal. He visited the Texas Longhorns already and could be actively visiting schools over the next few days.

#4. UCF Knights

The Knights had a disappointing season in 2024, finishing with a 4-8 record and Gus Malzahn leaving the program. Scott Frost is returning to Orlando trying to bring the program back to their winning ways.

That kind of change will not happen overnight, and UCF has 25 players entering the transfer portal. However, that also opens up playing time at different positions in a Power 4 conference team.

Marvin Jones Jr. could beef up his stats and stay close to home for one final season by playing for Frost, who would welcome an experienced player with such upside even if it’s for just one year.

#3. Texas Longhorns

There seems to be mutual interest in making this move, as the Longhorns already had the edge rusher in for a visit. Texas had one of the top defensive teams in 2024. Freshman defensive end Colin Simmons has been elite with nine sacks, while Trey Morre has 5.5 sacks.

Adding Marvin Jones Jr. would add depth and another tough pass rusher. If Jones looks for a contender and a program that can maximize his development, going to Austin could be his best option, even if that means taking fewer snaps on the field.

#2. Alabama Crimson Tide

Nick Saban might not be on the sidelines anymore, but Alabama is still one of the premier programs in the nation. In 2024, the Crimson Tide averaged an ordinary two sacks per game.

There isn’t a lot of immediate firepower in the defensive front recruiting class. That opens a spot for an experienced pass rusher with talent. Granted, Kane Wommack’s scheme doesn’t create many sacks, but the Crimson Tide should once again have a top defense.

Jones could fit in opposite LT Overton, who announced his return to school and contribute immediately.

#1. Miami Hurricanes

Marvin Jones Jr.’s father, Marvin Jones, was a standout linebacker at Florida State, being part of the 1993 national championship team. Would his son be willing to go to arch-rival Miami?

There are plenty of reasons this move could work. The Hurricanes had a championship-caliber offense in 2024, but the defense dragged the team down all season. The Hurricanes will lose Akheem Mesidor, Tyler Baron and Elijah Alston on the edge. Jones could move in and start right away.

For the Hurricanes, getting a solid pass rusher would immediately help the defense. It would also allow the junior edge rusher to go back home to finish his collegiate career for a top program.
